Carewell is designed to resemble how a community comes around a loved one in a time of need— an innermost circle of primary caregivers and outer circles of support. Tiered levels of support and access to the product give those in the throws of the caregiving the ability to delegate responsibilities and receive support while setting custom parameters. The ability to create a Care Team represents the collaborative nature of caregiving and brings people together with a centralized place to manage all caregiving responsibilities.

The calendar feature acts as a hub for the app— bringing together scheduled events, tasks, and medication regimens. Calendar items are neatly organized in an actionable list format to help members of the Care Team manage the progress of caregiving responsibilities. Events are assignable to all members of the Care Team while tasks remain personal.

Care Log is a unique open-ended feature that centralizes notes related to care of a loved one. Members can communicate and share information through written or audio notes to help capture updates and prevent the siloing of critical information. Notes can be added as personal notes or group notes.

The Medications tab functions as both a comprehensive list of medications but also a checklist for daily regimens. It’s not uncommon for medications to be changed throughout the caregiving process but it’s important to retain a list of what has been taken in the past so medications can be archived for future reference.

Between doctors’ offices, insurance companies, and legal servies, the number of documents floating around can become overwhelming. Files allows Care Teams to upload private and group files so the team can stay organized and store important documents for reference / download.

The Updates feature is available from the responsive web version of the product and gives the Care Team the ability to publish updates for interested friends and family. Published updates can receive community engagement such as comments and likes. Other features available from the app can also be used and accessed from the web.

Carewell also features a Contacts tab for storing important contacts that caregivers may need to reference, a Reports tab for tracking progress and wellness, and various settings for customizing your experience of the app.

I chose a visual design system that was simple and would compliment large amounts of text and information. It was important to provide a calming environment with limited stimuli as initial interviews shed light on just how strenuous and chaotic caregiving can be and so the product’s UI needed to actively counteract the user’s stressful external environment.

Notes on brand: flowers evokes feelings empathy, warmth, and support, while representing a nurturing spirit, growth, and resiliency. It also visually represents support encircling someone in need.
